Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Famous historian scientist, head of the Azerbaijan History Department of Nakhchivan State University, corresponding member of ANAS Zahmet Shahverdiyev is 75.

Shahverdiyev Zahmat Abulfat oglu was born on November 1, 1942 in the village of Garmrashen (former Kotanli) of Azizbeyov district of Western Azerbaijan. He graduated from the secondary school in Khorushuk village of Kashkand region in 1961 and was sent to military service in that year.

In 1966 he entered the History faculty of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute and graduated in 1970. In the same year he was appointed as a teacher of the Nakhchivan Branch.

In 1975-79 he was admitted to postgraduate study at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR.

In 1996-1997, he worked as deputy dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Nakhchivan State University, and in 1998-2005 he was dean of that faculty. Since 2006, he has been working as the Head of the Department of History of the Azerbaijan State University. Scientist is a member of Nakhchivan State University's Scientific Works (Social Sciences Series), editorial staff of "News" magazine of Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS.

Since 2013 he is a professor of NSU, and since 2014 he is a corresponding member of ANAS. By the decree of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 8, 2002 and by the decision of the Scientific Council of NSU on April 1, 2002, he was awarded with honorary decrees for effective multidisciplinary scientific-research activities. He was awarded the honorary title "Honored Teacher of the Republic of Azerbaijan" by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 16, 2007. With the decision of the Scientific Council of NSU on January 14, 2009, he received the title of "Scholar of the Year".

Z.Shahverdiyev is the author of more than 100 scientific articles, eleven books (including two textbooks) and two programs (for master and bachelor's degree). He is also an opponent of 5 dissertations, and he has been a reviewer of scientific work for twenty years.
