By organizational support of ANAS Nakhchivan Division and Ministry of Education of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was held an interactive open lesson on "The City of Nakhchivan as the Capital of Islamic Culture".

At the lesson held by the director of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Fahraddin Safarli, it was noted that within the framework of the VI conference of the Ministers of Culture of the countries-members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Baku in October 2009, Nakhchivan was declared the capital of Islamic culture in 2018.

It was brought to the attention of students that the Nakhchivan always played an important role in the socio-political and cultural life of Azerbaijan, particularly during the revival of Islam, was one of the developed cities of the country during the reign of the Azerbaijani states Atabekov, Khulakidov, Garagoyunlu, Aggoyunlu and Safavid.

F.Safarli said that, in the Middle Ages our masters of art in the architecture of Nakhchivan had created a rich cultural heritage, but in the last century some of them were subjected to disdainful attitude, and some were deliberately destroyed: "After the restoration of independence in our country on October 18, 1991 , adoption of the Law "On Freedom of Religion", especially after the return to power of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the republic, the attitude of our people to the past cultural heritage changed for the second time. Thus, the necessary care was taken in relation to the monuments of history and culture, including examples of architecture and monuments of Islamic culture in general".

The scientist noted that, in 2016 restoration works were completed in Alinjagala, Mausoleum Gulustan, Imamzadeh in the village of Khanlyglar (Parchy) of Sharur region, belonging to the XII-XIV centuries Mausoleum complex Garabaglar in the Kengarli region and a bath in the village of Engigia in the Sharur region. And in the village of Nehram of the Babek district, a mosque was built and used.

An open lesson was observed in more than 200 secondary schools of the autonomous republic.
