The 90th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union was solemnly celebrated

A literary and artistic evening dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union was organized at the International Mugham Center.

At first the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played at the event, which was attended by well-known writers from various countries and prominent Azerbaijani poets and writers. The dear memory of the martyrs who died for our territorial integrity was honored with a minute of silence.

The anniversary night was opened by the secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, poet and translator Salim Babullaoglu. He spoke about the incomparable role of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union in the country's 20th-century history and described the celebration of the institution's anniversary, for the first time after the complete restoration of the country’s territorial integrity, as a historic event.

Salim Babullaoglu said that National Leader Heydar Aliyev highly appreciated the activities of the Union, and mentioned that the Union successfully fulfilled the mission set before it.  

Then, the chairman of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, People's writer Anar, delivered a speech at event where he commemorated the victims of the 1937 repression and spoke about their fates. He also touched upon the 90-year storied and remarkable history of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, highlighting the contributions of Azerbaijani writers and poets to the preservation and promoting of the Azerbaijani language during the colonial period. Anar highlighted the President Ilham Aliyev's special attention and care to our literature and culture since the first day of his leadership.  

People's writer Anar mentioned that guests from various Turkic countries visited Azerbaijan to attend the 90th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, and shared his impressions of visiting Shusha together with the guests during the past three days. He emphasized that the liberation of Shusha, the entire Karabakh thanks to the courage of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and our glorious army is a great historical happiness. 

In his speech, the president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, discussed the historical journey of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, highlighting its outstanding contributions to the development of literature and literary studies in our country, and its role in raising generations of writers.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union always served the ideology of Azerbaijanism with honor and responsibility, and the most prominent writers of our nation led this institution. He highlighted that even during the most challenging years of Soviet power the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union displayed true heroism in safeguarding our literature, national identity, and native language.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli highly praised Anar's leadership of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, highlighting his role in protecting Azerbaijani literature and helping young writers and poets develop and grow. The head of ANAS also discussed the strong partnership between ANAS and the Azerbaijan Writers' Union.

Then Deputy Minister of Culture Farid Jafarov congratulated the writers and poets on the occasion of the 90th anniversary on behalf of Minister Adil Karimli. He also highly appreciated the presence of guests from Turkic states, emphasizing its significance for the development of literary and cultural relations.

People's writer Chingiz Abdullayev, the first secretary of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, spoke about the injustices faced by past prominent chairpersons of the union and paid tribute to the memory of 11 writers and poets whose children were martyred in the First Karabakh war.

President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova, the former Secretary General of TURKSOY Dusen Kaseinov, a prominent Turkish poet Ataol Behramoglu, chairman of Turkiye Professional Organization of Authors (Owners) of Intellectual and Artistic Works (ILESAM), Mehmet Nuri Parmaksiz, the editor-in-chief of the "Turkic Literature" magazine Imdat Avshar, Kyrgyz poet Monoldorov, Deputy Chairman of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan Minhojiddin Mirzo, Chairman of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, People's Poet Nariman Hasanzade, Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature Academician Rafael Huseynov, People's Poet Sabir Rustamkhanli and secretary of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, writer Elchin Huseynbeyli made speeches at the event and expressed their congratulations.

At the anniversary event, Ilgar Fahmi, secretary of Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, editor-in-chief of "Ulduz" magazine Gulu Agsas, expert of Culture Committee of Milli Majlis Akbar Goshaly recited their poems.

The event continued with an artistic program featuring performances and presentations.
