Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The lecture titled “On the Path to Independence: from Heydar Aliyev to Ilham Aliyev” marking the 55^th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s coming to political power in Azerbaijan, was held in the Central Scientific Center of ANAS.

The event was held at the joint initiative of the Presidium of ANAS, the NAP Yasamal District Organization, and Central Scientific Center of ANAS.  

At first, flowers were laid on the bust of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Central Scientific Library (CSL) foyer, honoring the genius leader’s dear memory.

The event was attended by the president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the Chairman of the NAP Yasamal District Organization Bakhtiyar Nabiyev, the Deputy Chairman of the NAP Yasamal District Organization Elnara Mustafayeva, Chairman of the Free Trade Union of ANAS, PhD in political sciences Sanan Hasanov, chairmen of NAP territorial party organizations of various scientific institutions of ANAS, members of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ANAS, directors of libraries of research centers, and representatives of the public.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, the president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, noted that 55 years have passed since the National Leader of Azerbaijan, the distinguished statesman Heydar Aliyev, came to political power in Azerbaijan.  The lecture, dedicated to this 55^th anniversary and titled “On the Path to Independence: from Heydar Aliyev to Ilham Aliyev”, was not accidental. He underlined that the National Leader laid a strong and reliable foundation of state independence, and under the leadership of his worthy successor, President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has reached its highest peak of prosperity.

The head of ANAS noted that in the 60^th years of the 20^thcentury, Azerbaijan experienced a deep crisis in its socio-economic life. The arrival of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the leadership on July 14, 1969, pulled Azerbaijan out of its difficult situation. Soon, the country achieved success in the production of advanced technologies, the application of scientific achievements in production, the dynamic development of agriculture, and the flourishing of culture.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that Heydar Aliyev, who was elected a member of the Political Bureau in 1982, while he was appointed as the First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers due to his great will and hard work, Azerbaijan already was in the top five among the union republics. He evaluated it as a logical result of the Heydar Aliyev phenomenon. During those years, we witnessed that National Leader Heydar Aliyev thought about the future of Azerbaijan in every step he took. The Academician said that the National Leader, who prepared his people for the future state independence despite working during the harsh times of the Soviet regime, left the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in July 1991 as a sign of protest against the two-faced policy of the USSR leadership towards Azerbaijan.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that in 1969-1982, under the leadership of the National Leader, a favorable environment was created for transforming the idea of statehood into a driving force for further development based on the principles of national self-awareness and the restoration of the people’s historical memory.

The head of ANAS emphasized that the inclusion in the Constitution of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1978 of the article “The State Language of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic is Azerbaijani Language”, the awarding of the state prize to Ziya Bunyadov’s monograph “State of Atabays of Azerbaijan”, the rescue of Bakhtiyar Vahabzade from arrest for his poem “Gulustan” and other forms of support provided by the National Leader became possible due to his unwavering will and efforts.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the results of the development strategy, implemented by the outstanding statesman Heydar Aliyev who returned to power for the second time at the people's call and insistence, are evident today.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that President Ilham Aliyev, political successor of the National Leader is one of the world leaders highlighting it as the grand culmination of 55 years and an eternal celebration.

Then, Chairman of the NAP Yasamal District Organization Bakhtiyar Nabiyev, director of the Central Scientific Library, PhD in in technical sciences, docent Huseyn Huseynov, department head of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, doctor of philosophical sciences Fuzuli Gurbanov also made speeches at the meeting highlighting the contributions of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijan.

In conclusion, the attendees viewed an exhibition featuring publications that reflected the life, activity, and rich political heritage of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
