Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

2018 is 60th years of the establishment of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after academician Ziya Bunyadov. This body was established on the basis of relevant departments and groups operating in other AS institutions in 1958 by the decision of the Council of Ministers. The first director of the institute was prominent scientist and s academician Abdulkerim Alizade. At present he continues his activity under the leadership of academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva.

In 1998, the name of academician Ziya Bunyadov was given to the Institute of Oriental Studies by the decree of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

During his 60 years of activity, the Institute has gained some serious scientific achievements. The basis of the organization is studying the legality of socio-political, economic, cultural development of the Eastern countries, studying the history of the East peoples, studying philological, religious-philosophical heritage, investigating written monuments, etc.

More than 600 monographs, articles and books, over 7000 scientific articles have been published in recent years. Currently, there are 139 employees in the enterprise.

Presidium of ANAS has made a number of decisions, taking into account the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Oriental Studies. According to the decision, the republican level conference devoted to the 60th anniversary of the organization, preparation of the book, awarding a number of employees and other measures are envisaged.
