Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

An international conference on "Social Geography and Development Priorities of the 21st Century in Azerbaijan and Russia" was held at the Main Building of ANAS.

Nearly 50 scientists and specialists from Turkey, Russia, Poland, France, Serbia and China attended the event organized by the Institute of Geography of ANAS, the Azerbaijan Geographical Society, the Association of Russian Geographers and the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The main purpose of the event is to examine the situation of Azerbaijan and Russia in modern geopolitical, geo-geographical, geodemographic and geospatial processes, to define development factors and priorities of the public geography and to develop proposals on this issue, Director of the Institute of Geography, academician Ramiz Mammadov underlined.

He noted that scientific relations between the geographers of the two countries were formed during the Soviet era, and for many years, significant results have been achieved as a result of joint research.

R.Mammadov said that the Russian factor has played an important role in the development of Azerbaijani science. He noted that relations between the two countries are strong, developing in the political, economic, scientific, cultural and other spheres.

President of the Association of Russian Geographers, Director of the North Caucasus Scientific and Research Institute of South Federal University on Economics and Social Problems, Doctor of Geography, Professor Alexander Druzhin, Professor of Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences Dong Yaven, Chairman of the Geography Society of Serbia Dr. Raiko Gnyato, Head of the Department of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Geography, Professor Chingiz Ismailov, employee of the Ege University of Turkey, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Aydin Ibrahimov and others touched upon the importance of the conference and discussed the scientific contacts.

Academician Ramiz Mammadov made a report on "Perspectives of Development of Cooperation in the Caspian Sea Region", PhD in Geography Maharram Hasanov on "Perspectives of Using Agro-Climatic Resources in the Food Security of Azerbaijani Population", Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zakir Eminov and PhD in Geography Mirnuh Ismayilov on " Russian Federation and Turkic World geopolitical aspect: geographical, socio-economic and cultural aspects", PhD in Geography Nizami Eyyubov " Natural growth of population in Azerbaijan: regulation of economic and social-geographical problems, Alexander Drugin's "Turkish bases" in the development of modern Russia: the socio-geographical aspect ".

Then, reports were heard at the plenary session.

It should be noted that the conference will continue until May 14.
