Corresponding member of ANAS Kerim Kerimov is 85

On June 5, Kerim Kerimov, a prominent geologist, honored science figure and technician, laureate of "Glory" order, correspondent member of ANAS, is 85 years old.

Kerim Kerimov was born in 1933 in Agdam. After graduating from high school in 1952, he entered the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industrial University and graduated from the University of "Mountain Engineering Geophysics" in 1975.

He defended his PhD thesis in 1964, in 1978, he defended doctors degree in Geophysics in 1990 he became professor. In 2001 he was elected a corresponding member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

The main directions of his scientific activity are the study of seismology, geological structure and search of oil and gas deposits by geophysical methods. The scientist also has special services in the development of the oil industry in Azerbaijan. Under his leadership, a new oil-gas tectonic zone with a length of 100-120 km and a 6-7 structure was discovered in Azerbaijan in 1993-1995 and was named as "Gayidish" on the occasion of national leader Heydar Aliyev's second return to the country.

The scientist is the author of more than 550 scientific works in Azerbaijan's geophysics, including 14 monographs, 28 inventions and over 135 atlas and maps. More than 76 scientific works have been published in America, France, England, Russia, Egypt, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, Iran, Japan and other countries.

In 1995, the academician was elected as a full member of the International Academy of Ecology, in 1997 he was appointed Vice President of the Academy. He was elected as a member of the European Geophysical Association in 1996, and the full member of the British Petroleum Society in 1997.

He was awarded the title of "Man of the Year" by the American Biographical Institute.

The scientist was awarded the honorary title "Honored Science and Technician of the Republic of Azerbaijan" for his contribution to the development of geology and geophysics in 1991. In 2001, he was awarded the Order of “Glory”.

Prof. Kerimov is also a talented artist with original palette. He is the author of thousands of cartoons. The main theme of these works is the policy pursued by Armenia against Azerbaijan. K. Kerimov is skillfully exposing terrorism, drug addiction, racism, injustice and Armenian oppression in his works. Until now, 18 art exhibitions were held in different countries around the world.
