Corresponding member of ANAS Oktay Gasimov is 60

On August 4, Azerbaijan's outstanding biophysicist, director of the Institute of Biophysics, correspondent member of ANAS Oktay Kazim oglu Gasimov is 60

Oktay Gasimov was born in 1958 in Zagatala. He graduated from secondary school # 44 in Baku in 1974 with a gold medal and entered Baku State University. After graduating from high school, he started working at the Institute of Physics at ANAS.

In 1982-1984 he was a researcher at the Institute of Chemical Physics named after N.N. Semyonov in Moscow.

In 1988, he defended his PhD in Physics and Mathematics, in 1992 he defended his doctoral thesis. In 2017 he was elected as a corresponding member of ANAS on specialty "Biophysics".

Corresponding member of ANAS O. Gasimov underwent the first free radical processes and photosensitivity and thermo-reactions of these radicals during the mechanical collapse of proteins. The scientist has developed a new "Dot-Controlled Tryptophan Fluorescence" (DCTF) method to determine the three-dimensional solution of proteins. Three-dimensional solution of tear lipocaline protein by DCTF method has been confirmed by X-ray analysis of protein crystals.

The scientist also engaged in pedagogical activity besides scientific activity. He has worked at Los Angeles, California, from 1996 to 2015. At the same time, he was responsible for grants from the US National Institute of Health (NIH).

Head of International Laboratory of Biopolymers and Toxins Spectroscopy, created jointly with the University of California at the Institute of Physics of ANAS since 2009.

O. Gasimov is the author of more than 90 scientific articles. Under his supervision 1 candidate dissertation was defended.

Biophysicist has repeatedly participated in international conferences and congresses and has qualified the science of Azerbaijan.

He worked as Head of the Center for Biophysics and Smart Materials at the Institute of Physics of ANAS in 2015-2016.

Since 2016 he is the director of the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS.

We congratulate the outstanding scientist on the occasion of the 60th jubilee and wish him good health and success in his scientific activity.
