ANAS Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry after academician Murtuza Naghiyev held a conference dedicated to the 110th anniversary of a prominent Azerbaijani scientist, Honored Scientist, Hero of Socialist Labor, academician Murtuza Naghiyev at the ANAS main building on October 30.

The President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh opened the meeting, stressed the importance of the Order of AR President Ilham Aliyev “On the 110th anniversary of academician Murtuza Naghiyev” dated November 2, 2017.

Akif Alizadeh spoke about the merits of a scientist in the development of chemical science, chemistry and oil technology. Thanks to the Murtuza Naghiyev’s substantive activities, who made a valuable contribution to Azerbaijani science and achieved great success as the founder of a new direction in chemistry.

He noted that, by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS was published "Selected Works" by Murtuza Naghiyev. Recalling that, academician Murtuza Naghiyev also was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR, head of ANAS said that, his fruitful scientific, organizational and social activities were highly appreciated, in 1969 academician was awarded the highest award - the title of Hero of Socialist Labor. He also stressed that, a prominent scientist was awarded the Order of Lenin, Red Banner of Labor, a number of medals and the Honorary Diploma of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Then, director of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives, academician Farzaliyev Vagif, in his report, spoke about the life and scientific activities of an outstanding scientist.

Vagif Farzaliyev said that, in 1960, academician Murtuza Naghiyev began working on the theory of global optimization - “Super-optimization”|: "These studies were based on a mathematical model consisting of various equations and parameters. However, the capabilities of computing at that time did not allow to realize these ideas. Only in 1968, academician Murtuza Naghiyev put forward the generalized principle of super-optimization”.

Academician represented our country at various international congresses, symposiums and conferences, in 1956 at the First International Conference on Catalysis, which was held in Philadelphia (USA), he announced for the first time worldwide his new theory of chemical technology. This theory was perceived by scientists with great interest, the material about it was published in the famous journal "Chemical Engineering Progress".

On the initiative of Murtuza Naghiyev, in 1965, was created the Institute of Theoretical Problems of Chemical Technology and he was elected as director of this institute.

Speaking at the event, Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, Professor Mustafa Babanli, Director of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, academician Vagif Abbasov, Vice-President of ANAS, academician Dilgam Tagiyev, head of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, academician Agadadash Aliyev told about life and the scientific activities of a prominent scientist, shared their memories of him.

Then, spoke the son of the late academician, Vice-President of ANAS, academician Tofik Naghiyev and shared memories of his father.

Then, the conference continued its work at the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry after academician Murtuza Naghiyev.

The Conference will last till 31 October.
