Azerbaijani scientist attends events supported by UNESCO in Turkmenistan

Shahin Mustafayev, Academician, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Z.M.Bunyadov, visited Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The scientist made a report at the meeting of the Silk Roads Serial World Heritage Nomination Coordinating Committee. He emphasized that the Coordinating Committee played an important role in the inclusion of the historical and cultural monuments in the World Heritage List and of their protection in countries located on the ancient Silk Road. He informed the participants about the architectural and archaeological monuments connected with the Silk Road in Azerbaijan. He noted that Azerbaijan is interested in joining the project, and serious discussions are being held in various agencies of the country, including the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, UNESCO National Commission and ANAS.

Members of project countries are ready to cooperate closely with Azerbaijan in the final declaration of the meeting.

The academician also participated in an international conference on UNESCO's "Importance of the Great Silk Road: Present and Future Development". Speaking at the conference, the academician spoke about the role of Silk Road projects in the sustainable development of the Caspian Sea countries and said cooperation in this area would have a positive impact on the development of scientific and cultural relations, including international tourism.

S.Mustafayev moderated the last session of the international conference, which was attended by representatives of the country until 20.

He also participated in the meeting of experts dedicated to the discussion of the UNESCO Silk Road online platform interactive atlas.
