| Establishment history | Folklore Institute began its activity in 1994 on the base of Literature Institute named after Nizami ANAS as Scientific Cultural Centre “Folklore palace”. During the first years the Centre consisted of sections such as “Azerbaijan folklore”, “Folklore of Turkic nations”, “Ashug activity” and “Computer centre” and in 2000 with the 1300th anniversary of “Kitabi Dede Gorgud” it riched with the department “Gorgud-study”. From 2003 it became the independent structure unit of ANAS as Folklore Institute. | |
| Basic activity directions | Collecting Azerbaijan folklore and mythological texts from all regions of the republic and foreign areas where Azerbaijanians live in compact, documenting, scientific classification, making catalogue, compiling and publishing; investigating the variants and sources of folklore texts, explaining the growth characters of Azerbaijan folklore in historical chronological in succession and investigating the theoretical problems, studying the local, regional, ethnic, national and universal characters and relations of Azerbaijan folklore, creating the rich folklore anthology, folklore and myth texts volumes of Azerbaijan regions, preparing the history of folklore, mythology and folklore-study in many volumes. | |
