Guliyev Ayyub Salah oglu was born on June 1, 1954 in Shahbuz district of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. He graduated from the Applied Mathematics faculty of the Azerbaijan State University in 1975.

He was the director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory in 1997-2015, and he also served as an academic secretary of the Department of Physical, Mathematical and Technical Sciences of ANAS. He is currently working as a senior research fellow at SAO.

He is also engaged in the pedagogical activity at Baku State University and Baku Engineering University.

A.Guliyev defended PhD in 1982, in 1993 he defended his doctoral thesis. He was elected as a corresponding member of ANAS in 2001, and in 2012 received professor title.

The scientist is a specialist on solar system objects. In 1998, under his leadership, the SAO’s 2-meter telescope was re-launched, and then the telescope's management system was upgraded, and the aluminum-mounting unit in the observatory started functioning, and its material-technical base was substantially strengthened.

His major scientific achievements are the finding of effects in the comet system, the new theory of comet fragmentation, including the concept of the formation of hyperbolic comets and meteors and the concept of unknown planets.

A.Guliyev is the author of 168 scientific articles (number of scientific works abroad 86, number of articles published in international journals indexed and indexed), including 3 monographs. Under his leadership, up to now seven PhDs have been prepared.
