Academician Gajar Chingiz is 90

A prominent physicist, laureate of the State Prize and the “Shohrat” Order, head of the Laboratory of Molecular Spectroscopy of the Institute of Physics, academician Gajar Chingiz is 90 on June 6.

Gajar Chingiz Oveis oglu was born on June 6, 1929 in Baku. In 1953, he graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic University (now St. Petersburg Technical University) on engineering-physics research. Then, he began working in the radiophysics laboratory of the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

The works of the scientist in microwave periodic spectroscopy are of great interest. For the first time he studied the rotational spectra of molecules of ethyl, propyl, isopropyl alcohol and ethyl mercaptan. Conformational analysis was carried out, structural parameters and dipole moments were determined.

For the result of his work, the development of scientific principles in the field of molecular spectroscopy and the production technology of widely used electronic devices, Gajar Chingiz was awarded the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1982 and the S.I.Vavilov Prize of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1990 he was also awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR, in 2004 by “Shohrat” Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in the 2014 Nasraddin Tusi award.

The scientist is a corresponding member of ANAS since 1980 and since 2001 is an active member. In 2009-2012 Gajar Chingiz was a Director of the Institute of Physics of ANAS. Currently, he is the head of the laboratory of molecular spectroscopy. He is the author of about 200 scientific articles, 50 copyright certificates and 10 monographs in Azerbaijani, Russian and English.

Under the guidance of a scientist 24 PhDs and 8 Doctors of Science were trained.

We congratulat outstanding scientist, wish him good health and success in his life!
