On September 21, a well-known turkologist, prominent linguist, director of the Ataturk Center in Azerbaijan, deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the World Algaput Federation, Nizami Jafarov is 60 years old.
Nizami Gulu oglu Jafarov was born on September 21, 1959 in Zalimkhan village of Aghstafa district. He graduated from the Philology Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) with honors.
Beginning his carrier in 1985 at the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan named after Nasimi, he worked as a chief department of newspaper “Literature and Art” (1987), a teacher, professor of Turkology department of Baku State University (1991), and dean of Philology faculty. Also, he has established Dada Gorgud Research Laboratory at the Philology Faculty of Baku State University and was appointed its head (1999). Academician was appointed as the head of the Ataturk Center in Azerbaijan by the Presidential Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2001 and has been working in this position to this day. N.Jafarov, who has earned the highest respect of students with high professionalism, has been appointed head of the Department of General Linguistics at Baku State University since June 2019.
In 1985 he defended his doctoral thesis on "Structural and semantic development of simple sentences in the Azerbaijani language", in 1991 he defended his doctoral thesis on "Literature of the XVIII century Azerbaijan." He was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 2001 and an active member in 2017.
Academician whose studies are devoted to the problems of the structural and semantic development of simple sentences in the Azerbaijani language, Azerbaijani literary language of the 18th century, nationalization of the Azerbaijani Turkic language, foundations and history of the development of the Azerbaijani Turkic language, history and modern literary process of the ancient Turkic and Turkic peoples is the author of hundreds of scientific articles, scientific and journalistic works, manuals of higher educational institutions and secondary schools. His books and monographs “From Fizuli to Vagif”, “The History of Nationalization of the Azerbaijani Turkic Language”, “Problems of Azerbaijani Studies”, “Ancient Turkic Literature”, “From the Turk’s World to the Turkic World”, “Introduction to Turkology”, “National Ideas of Mir Jelal” and others aroused deep sympathy among the scientific community.
An outstanding scientist also plays an invaluable role in the training of young specialists. Under his leadership, prepared 5 doctors of sciences and more than 15 PhDs.
He is a member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan II (2000), III (2005), IV (2010) and V challenges (2015). Also is a member of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan, the head of the Azerbaijani-Turkish inter-parliamentary working group, a member of the Azerbaijani-Kazakh, Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz, Kuwait-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary working group and a member of the board of the Press Council of Azerbaijan.
Academician Nizami Jafarov was awarded the honorary title of Honored Scientist in 2001 for his scientific results and effective service in the field of education. In addition, by the decision of the Azerbaijan Education Society “Bilik” was awarded the Yusif Mammadaliyev medal.
