Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

ANAS Institute of Linguistics hosted an event dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the outstanding literary critic and critic, State Prize laureate, Honored Scientist, academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov on October 9.

Director of the institute, academician Naghisoylu Mohsun spoke on the importance of Order by AR President dated April 15, 2019 “On the celebration of the 110th anniversary of academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov” He said that, the scientist played a big role in the development of literature in our country. He praised the borrowings from Persian and Arabic as a natural phenomenon.

Academician emphasized that, he was recognized as an outstanding theoretician of Azerbaijani science and one of the creators of professional literary criticism. He noted that, the theory of literature and literary criticism are the main directions in the work of the scientist. His three-volume books “History of Russian Literature of the 19th Century” (1970, 1974) are considered the most popular scientific works on Russian literature in Azerbaijan.

Next, head of the Department of the Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi, Professor Shirindil Alishanli delivered a paper on academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov’s life and activity. The speaker noted that, Mammad Jafar Jafarov made an invaluable contribution to the study of our literature.
