Etnographic studies were carried out in Gazakh and Aghstafa

Ethnographic expedition of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS has carried out studies in Gazakh and Agstafa regions. According to the aim and tasks of the expedition, research objects were economy, material culture, craft, family and folklore of the region.

Changes in urban population growth, infrastructure expansion, service sector expansion, modern communication - the impact of the internet, mutual support in the outlook, lifestyle, home life, family relationships, wedding and mourning ceremonies, kitchen culture have been studied in the region.

Expedition members visited Agstafa Regional Culture Office, “Keshikchidagh” State Historical-Cultural Reserve, “Avey” State Historical-Cultural Reserve, Agstafa History-Ethnography Museum, and Gazakh Culture Department. Also, they held meetings in along with Gazakh and Aghstafa city centers, Kosalar, Alpoud, Girag Kasaman, Aghkoynek, Dash Salahli, Abbasbayli, Garapapag, Kamarli, Gaymagli, Birinji Shikli, Ikinji Shikhli, Yukhari Salahli, Khanliglar, Astanbayli, Sadikhli, Mughanli, Boyuk Jafarli etc. and collected materials from Hasansu, Eynalli, Vurghun, Kochasgar, Poylu, Garahasanli, Duz Gishag, Pirili, Khilkhina villages of Agstafa region.

The expedition was also concntrated on state-of-the-art of economic life of the region, grain growing, potato growing, tobacco farming, as well as equestrianism, fishery, fishing and beekeeping.

One of the types of folk crafts in Azerbaijan, the crate crafting in Gazakh. Nofal Gurbanov, who is engaged in crate crafting in the region center and considered this art a kind of family tradition said that, curently, crisscross crate are preferable and are mainly made of dry pine trees.

The expedition has learned about “sazbendlik” art in Gazakh-Agstafa region. “Gara saz”, “Ana saz”, “Sadafli saz”, “Beche saz” sorts of saz are aviable and this process consists of some stages.

Note that, ethnographic expedition staff of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography to Gazakh and Aghstafa regions consists of PhD in History Bahman Aliyev (head of expedition) Dr. History Ilhama Mammadova, PhD in History Asad Aliyev, PhD in History Sevil Aghamaliyeva, Ismayil Umudlu and junior researcher Gulnar Taghiyeva.
