September 19, Institute of Literature named after Nizami hosted a scientific conference on the theme “The oil factor in literature and art,” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the “Contract of the Century.”

The conference was attended by representatives of the scientific community, the media and the electronic media.

Vice-president of ANAS, director of the Institute of Literature, deputy of Milli Majlis, academician Isa Habibbayli noted that 20 years have passed since the signing of the “Contract of the Century”, which plays an important role in the modern history of Azerbaijan. This contract has laid the foundation of the national oil strategy in the country. Over the past 10 years as a result of a deliberate policy of President Ilham Aliyev to turn the oil capital in human capital significantly improved the material and technical base of Azerbaijani science, modernized its infrastructure. Overhaul of buildings of many institutions and academic institutes, construction and commissioning of new buildings - the result of a successful policy.

In its report, “Oil World Azerbaijani literature” academician Isa Habibbayli noted that the return of Heydar Aliyev to power in 1993 at the insistence of the people was the beginning of big changes in political and economic life of the country. In conclusion, the major oil contract of the century - an important part of the wise policy of the great leader in the field of oil.

It was noted that Ilham Aliyev, while working as first vice president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), from the early days was brought to the negotiations, was one of the most active participants in the development and successful implementation of new oil strategy, and now as President of Azerbaijan successfully continuing this strategic line.

“Production sharing” typed contract which signed on September 20, 1994 in the palace of “Gulistan” in order jointly develop oil fields “Azeri”, “Chirag “,” Guneshli “in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea has been appreciated as a great historical event by SOCAR vice president Khaliq Mammadov, and rector of the Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov. It was noted that the contract entitled 'Contract of the Century “in its historical, political and international importance, consisting of 400 pages and compiled in four languages, to become a recurring theme of new artistic and scientific works. “Contract of the Century”, concluded with the well-known oil companies in eight countries of the world must be reflected in both the literary and scientific works.

The conference papers were presented by Professor Bedirkhan Ahmadov “Problems of Petroleum Oil and images in the work of Mehdi Huseyn”, Ph.D. in Philology Mammadali Mustafayev “The first literary work on the subject of oil in Azerbaijan literature”, Elnara Akimova “Chanting” black gold “in the Azerbaijani poetry”, Shamil Sadigov “Oil theme in Azerbaijani literature of independence”, doctoral student of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts Nigar Akhundova “Oil in Azerbaijan fine art.”

At the event were shown slides, reflecting the history of the oil industry in Azerbaijan.
