Institute of Oriental Studies celebrated 150th anniversary of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh

December 13, Institute of Oriental Studies named after academician Ziya Bunyadov of ANAS, has hosted for a scientific session dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great writer and playwright Jalil Mammadguluzadeh.

Speaking at the event, institute director academician Govkhar Bakhshaliyeva recalled that today's event is being carried out in accordance with the Order of President Ilham Aliyev “On the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh”.

Speaking about the exceptional role of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh in raising Azerbaijani literature to a new level, G. Bakhshaliyeva said that he did a great job in preserving and developing our native language, awakening the Azerbaijani people, combating false propagandists, prejudices and ignorance.

It was noted that the basis of the activities of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh is his journalism. The journal “Molla Nasraddin”, which spread throughout Azerbaijan and beyond, contributed to national awakening, the revival movement and had a powerful influence on the development of ideas of freedom, is the result of the genius of Mirza Jalil. A number of democrats, patriots, and enlightened writers rallied around this journal.

G. Bakhshaliyeva said that Institute of Oriental Studies investigated the multilateral work of an outstanding writer, and Iranian dissertants submitted theses entitled “The Influence of Azerbaijani Literature on Iranian Literature at the Beginning of the 20th Century” and “Role of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh and M. Sabir in the Development of Iranian Satirical Press."

Discussions took place around the lecture, questions were responded.
