Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On December 20, Institute of Oil and Gas has hosted for a meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences (DES) of ANAS.

The meeting was attended by the vice-president of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev academician - secretary of the division, academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, members of the division, directors of scientific institutions and organizations attached to the Division.

During the meeting chaired by academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, it was delivered an annual report of the Institute of Oil and Gas in 2019 on the results of scientific and organizational activities.

Presenting the report of the enterprise, deputy director of science of the Institute of Oil and Gas, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor Vagif Gurbanov said that studies were carried out within the frame of "State Program for Industry Development in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2015-2020", research programs recommended by the Presidium of ANAS, including programs at the request of BP and “Azneft” Production Association.

Because of studies, a new data has been obtained on the spatial reflection of fractures in the tectonic maps of Azerbaijan as well as the oil and gas prospects of the crystalline foundation of the South Caspian mega trench. In addition, Naftalan oil was compared to the content of naphtha oil in other oil beds in Azerbaijan to investigate the healing properties, he noted. 

He said that 91 articles and thesis were published in the scientific articles of the employees of the enterprise, while 6 articles on the journals, including Thomson Reuters və SCOPUS bases.

In the reporting year, institute has signed agreement of cooperation via Kazakhstan Atyrau Institute of Oil and Gas, Institute of Paleontology, Geology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
