Celebration of 120th anniversary of prominent linguist and Turkish scientist Ahmad Jafaroglu

On December 20, Institute of Oriental Studies named after academician Ziya Bunyadov of ANAS held a scientific session dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the prominent linguist and Turkish scientist Ahmad Jafaroglu.

The director of the institute, academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva said that the scientist is the author of numerous scientific works on the language, literature, history, ethnography of the Azerbaijani people.

Speaking later, academician Nargiz Akhundova, academic-secretary of the Division of Social Sciences, said that despite the fact that Ahmad Jafaroglu lived in exile, his heart always beat with Azerbaijan. He made a great contribution to Azerbaijani studies and turkology.

At the session, an employee of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Mirza Ansarli spoke about the life and activities of the Turkish scientist in exile, highlighting his years of study in Germany, and noted that Jafaroglu was always under the control of the Soviet special services.

The event was attended by the head of Education Department of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi, PhD in Philology Gatiba Guliyeva who made speech on linguistic activities and creativity of Ahmad Jafaroglu, head of the Azerbaijan-Asian Literary Relations Department of the Institute of Literature, PhD in Philology Badirkhan Ahmadov on scientists’ merits in the field of literary studies, and others.
