On February 13, Central Scientific Library of ANAS held an event dedicated to the International Book Donation Day.
Opening the event, Leyla Imanova, director of the CSL Doctor of Medicine, stated that key slogan of this remarkable day in 2020, which is held annually, is “Share love of book”. She informed about proper collecting, systematizing of information and presenting it to library users, including enriching and transfering of funds to readers at the enterprise. Providing information about the CSL's electronic catalog, National Digital Memory Database, collections and publications stored in the organization, the director said that last year, 154,000 information about our country was posted on Wikipedia.
L. Imanova said that in the year 2019, the library was donated to 50,000 publications and over 11,000 donations by the CSL to various organizations and institutions.
Then, head of the Library-Service Department of the CSL, Aygun Safarova said that the International Book Donation Day has been celebrated since 2012 and the library has joined this remarkable event and donated publications to secondary schools of the country.
Within the framework of the event, the presentation of "Torah", which was first translated from original to Azerbaijani and donated to CSL, was presented by Teymur Sadigov, a leading scientist of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Ph.D. in Philology.
While translations were used the views of Jewish scholars and rabbis and compared the copies of the Torah with other languages, noted T.Sadigov and stressed out that, he has been working on the academic translation for five years, and that the publication will encourage new comparative topics, as well as research in Azerbaijani Oriental Studies.
Speaking at the ceremony, director of the Institute of Oriental Studies academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, Professor Gazanfar Pashayev, Deputy Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office and Chairman of the Religious Community of the Mountain Jews in Baku Milikh Evdayev spoke of multicultural values in Azerbaijan, and higlighted the translation of “Torah” as a significant contribution to the traditions of multiculturalism and tolerance.
Finally, participants were donated books by CSL.
