Astrophysicist Namig Jalilov turns 65

On February 18, the famous scientist in the field of plasma physics, a member of the Eurasian International Astronomical Society, director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, corresponding member of ANAS, Namig Jalilov, turns 65 years old.

Namig Sardar oglu Jalilov was born on February 18, 1955 in the Shakhbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. After graduating from Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University), he studied in post - graduate school at the Russian Institute of Earth Magnetics, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation (IZMIRAN) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1983, he defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Propagation and transformation of MAG waves in the solar atmosphere."

He defended his doctoral thesis in 2004 on the topic “Physical Models of the Global Oscillations of the Sun” in IZMIRAN.

Starting from the scientific and theoretical problems of helioseismology, in the field of solar physics N. Dzhalilov achieved fundamental results. He calculated the spectrum of the acoustic pulse of the sun, taking into account the radiation absorption of vibrations. The scientist is also the author of important projects in the field of neutrino physics with scientists from Russia, Canada and Spain.

Namig Jalilov (for the first time together with Russian and German scientists) put forward the theory of twisted global oscillations associated with the differential rotation of the Sun.

Significant results of the astrophysicist who is the author of 130 scientific articles have been published in authoritative scientific journals in Russia, Europe and the USA. About 700 references to scientific works of N. Jalilov are registered.

The results of the scientist's work were twice included in the list of the most important results of astrophysics in the world in 2002 and 2004. His monograph “Global Oscillations of the Sun”, in collaboration with the famous astrophysicist J. Staude (Germany), aroused great interest in the scientific community.

Jalilov is also the leader and participant of a number of fundamental international grants. Thanks to the efforts of the scientist, the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory of ANAS won a 4-year (2012-2015) joint grant project under the FP7 program of the European Union.

The astrophysicist is a member of the International Eurasian Astronomical Society.

We congratulate corresponding member of ANAS Namig Jalilov on his 65th birthday and wish him robust health and success in the development of domestic science!
