Second plenary session of “No 610 project by International Program for Geological Sciences” launched

On October 13, 2014 ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysic hosted the second plenary session of “No 610 project by International Program for Geological Sciences”. The event was held by organization of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, and sponsored by UNESCO, International Union of Geological Sciences and Institute of Applied Sciences Avalon (Winnipeg, Canada). During the meeting, which was attended by scientists and experts from Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Turkey, Georgia, Great Britain, Italy, France and other countries, academician-secretary of the Department of ANAS Earth Sciences, head of Department of Geodynamics and Seismology of Institute of Geology and Geophysics, AcademicianFakhraddin Gadirov spoke about the importance of the topic.

It was noted that a main purpose of the international action is discussion of such questions as the changes resulting in sea waters from various influences, pollution of soils oil, the radioactivity, climate change and environment, geo-ecological balance, etc.

Professor of Institute of Applied Sciences Avalon Valentina Yanko-Gombe reported that the purpose of the project is drawing attention of a scientific world to geological evolution of the region, and also still bigger increase of efficiency of the conducted researches, based on mutual experience.

Within action the reports devoted to climate changes and environment, communication between sea level rise and tectonic changes on the southern coast of the Black Sea, rehabilitation and an assessment of geo-ecological balance on west banks of the Caspian Sea were heard.

Within conference which will last till October 20, excursions to the Maiden's Tower, the Palace of the Shirvan Shahs, Gobustan Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Complex, and also to Lagich- the ancient city, having rich history are planned.
