Employees of the Sheki Regional Scientific Center continue laboratory and field trip in turn

Director of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS (Sheki SRC), PhD in Physics, Associate Professor Yusif Shukurlu gave an interview on the work done in the first quarter of 2020 and from March 29 to April 19. The director said that since the first half of 2020, the staff of Sheki SRC has been conducting research on 8 topics in 3 areas. Following the order of the Operative Headquarters of the Cabinet of Ministers on coronavirus, employees of the Center's Plant Gene Fund and Biodiversity, as well as mulberry silkworm breeding departments continue to carry out laboratory and field trip. Employees of other departments conduct research on the plan online at home.

The scientist noted that the Department of Plant Biochemistry of Sheki SRC studies the amount of liquid, dry matter, cellulose, ash and other substances accumulated in the fruit of the wild Shingila medicinal plant, which is distributed in the mountains and foothills of Sheki-Zagatala region, and changes in the acidity (pH) of the plant depending on the area of distribution are observed.

He noted that the Center's Folklore and Folk Arts Department continues to collect and conduct research on "Research of oral and written literature of the region in terms of types and genres."

According to the scientist, in order to study biodiversity in the field of experiments, a new Medical Garden of Sheki SRC was built by planting 17 species of medicinal plants in the form of trees and shrubs, 3 of each. Planting material for the medical garden was obtained from the Central Chestnut Biocenosis and other forest areas of the Sheki region under the control of the center.

Y.Shukurlu said that in April 2020, Institute of Genetic Resources of ANAS sent fertilizer to Sheki SRC for for zoning purposes and sown to “Stavrapol” wheat varieties in the 2 hectares and obtained a normal growing, as well as herbicide was applied to the field to control weeds.

In addition, he provided information about the work done in the departments of Historical Heritage and Ethnography, Ecological Biophysics, Landscape science, Selection of Mulberry Silkworms and other departments, research and projects.
