On April 23, the XI Congress of Oncologists and Radiologists began in video communication format, organized by the Association of Directors of Centers and Institutes of Oncology and X-ray Radiology of the CIS and Eurasia.
At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Murashko, read out to the congress participants a congratulatory letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The congress, held for the first time in an online format, has become a real forum for scientists and specialists in these fields to exchange experiences. Over 7,000 participants from 10 countries watched the congress.
At the plenary meeting of the congress, delegates spoke in detail about the work done in the field of oncology and radiology in their countries, best practices and problems. On the first working day, reports from experts from different countries were heard. Among these reports, the report on the organization and success of the cancer service in Azerbaijan was met with great interest.
Congress participants will be presented about 10 reports and more than 30 theses of Azerbaijani oncologists on breast diseases, oncological operations in the field of urology, proctology and others. In plenary discussions, the National Cancer Center, which joined the congress with a large group of specialists, plans to discuss the current problems of cancer research in the world, recommendations and opinions on the treatment and examination of cancer patients during the coronavirus pandemic.
The congress was informed about the establishment of a new medal named after the world-famous oncologist-surgeon, academician Nikolai Trapeznikov, who had headed the Russian Scientific Oncology Center for many years. It was noted that by the decision of the Presidium of the Association this medal will be awarded to scientists and specialists who have achieved high results in the field of prevention, treatment and scientific research of cancer in the world.
The Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Murashko, told congress participants that a unanimous decision was made to award the new director of the National Cancer Center of Azerbaijan, academician Jamil Aliyev, with a new medal named after academician Nikolai Trapeznikov. The congress participants welcomed this decision.
