On May 28, well-known scientist in the field of folklore, director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, head department of Azerbaijani literature of the Faculty of Philology of the Azerbaijan University of Languages, academician Mukhtar Imanov turns 65.

Mukhtar Imanov was born on May 28, 1955 in the Sharur district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Azerbaijan University named after S.M. Kirov in 1977 and in the same year began his career as a teacher at the Hamzali village secondary school of Sharur district. The scientist worked as a junior researcher, senior researcher at the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS, a senior and leading researcher at the Folklore Institute. Since 2011 he is the director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS.

He defended his doctoral thesis on "Psychologism in modern Azerbaijani prose" in 1984, and his doctoral thesis on "Genesis and poetics of laughter in Azerbaijani folklore" in 2007. In 2014 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, and in 2017 a n active member.

Academician M.Imanov was the editor-in-chief of "Yazichi" publishing house in 1992-2000.

The scientific works of the folklorist are dedicated to the definition of the theoretical foundations of the problem of artistic psychology in Azerbaijani prose, the creation of a scientific concept of the Azerbaijani folk culture of laughter, as well as a number of topical problems of folklore.

He rendered invaluable services in the field of collection, compilation and publication of Azerbaijani folklore. Academician is the project manager and co-author of the collections "Zangazur folklore" (Anthology of Azerbaijani folklore, book VII) and 9-volume "Karabakh: folklore is also a history".

We congratulate the prominent folklorist on his 65th anniversary and wish him a long life, robust health and success in his scientific and pedagogical activities.
