Scientists of the Institute of Folklore delivered lectures at the international scientific symposium

Scientists of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS delivered lectures at the International Scientific Online Symposium Dede Gorgud, which was held in Turkey.

The symposium was held with the joint organizational support of the journal “Social Sciences” of the Faculty of Literature of the University of Suleyman Demirel (Turkey), the Department of Dede Gorgud of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS and the scientific and literary journal “Dede Gorgud”.

At the international event, which was attended by well-known scholars of the Turkic world, the head of the Department of Dede Gorgud, Institute of Folklore, Professor Ramazan Gafarli delivered a lecture on “Functional structural typology of the new manuscript of the epic “Dede Gorgud”, and folklore researcher Ilkin Elsever delivered a lecture on “Ceremony hunting in the epic “Kitabi Dede Gorgud”.

The symposium discussed the genre of a new manuscript of the epic “Dede Gorgud” discovered in Iran in early 2019 and its relationship with the famous Dresden and Vatican copies. In his speech, the head of the Department of Mythology of the Institute of Folklore, Professor Seyfaddin Rzasoy, noted that the opinion that the manuscript is the third copy of the dastan is erroneous, this copy is a continuation of the not written dastan of “Kitabi Dada Gorgud”, namely the oral epic “Dada Gorgud” in Turkman / Turkmen era.

At the international scientific symposium, a total of 44 reports were listened.

In conclusion, it was clarified that the text of the manuscript discovered by Veli Muhammad Khoja was not the third copy of Kitabi Dede Gorgud. It was proposed to name this separate manuscript “Turkman Sahra” or “Gunbadkavus”.
