The Karabakh problem has been raised for more than two hundred years. As a result of the wars between Russia and the Gajar Iran in the early 19th century, the Karabakh khanate was incorporated into Russia in May 1805 by the Treaty of Kurakchay. As a result of these wars, especially under the Turkmenchay Treaty, Armenians were relocated from Iran to Azerbaijani lands. One of the territories where Armenians were resettled was Nagorno-Karabakh. During these years, there was no Armenian state in the South Caucasus. With the help of foreign patrons, the Republic of Ararat - the Armenian state - was established in 1918.
