Although 11,000 hectares of Sharur region, including Gunnut village, were returned in May 2018 with the successful military operation of the victorious Azerbaijani army, many monuments of Nakhchivan, including the Karki settlement and the Karki necropolis, are currently under enemy occupation.

This was stated by the head of the department of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of the Nakhchivan Division, corresponding member of ANAS Vali Bakhshaliyev.

Noting that some territories belonging to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic were also occupied by Armenian vandals, Bakhshaliyev said that our historical monuments in Kilit and Kotam villages of Ordubad region were targeted by enemy bullets and our cemeteries were destroyed.
