The Khudavang monastery in Kalbajar belonged to the ancestors of the Azerbaijani people

The Khudavang monastery complex in Kalbajar belonged to the Albanians who took part in the ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani people.

Senior researcher of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in History Ulviya Hajiyeva said this while speaking about the attempts to Armenianize the Khudavang monastery complex in Kalbajar.

According to her, the Khudavang monastery complex is a magnificent material and cultural example created by the ancestors of the Azerbaijani people.

The area belonged to the "Rostock" region of the lowland and mountainous region of modern Karabakh (called "Orchistena" in ancient sources, "Artsakh" in Georgian and Armenian sources, "Khachin" in the first century BC). This region covered the modern Kalbajar region. After the collapse of the Albanian statehood into small Albanian principalities, the monastery came under the control of the independent Khachin dynasty.

Specialist U.Hajiyeva report that the Khudavang monastery complex is a magnificent material and cultural example created by the ancestors of the Azerbaijani people.
