Freshwater ecosystems of Azerbaijan: problems and expectations

The scarcity of fresh water resources in the arid and semi-arid regions of the world, which is gradually deepening and has become a serious problem, is of concern to all mankind. Currently, more than 40% of the world's population faces the problem of drinking water. The problem of fresh water has already become a global problem, and its solution is possible through the joint efforts of countries around the world. Studies show that the recent emergence of this problem is due to climate change, pollution of freshwater ecosystems by human activities, rapid expansion of urbanization and arable land in line with population growth, and so on. played a key role.

More than 60% of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan is arid and semi-arid landscapes. People's livelihoods in these areas are directly related to the provision of fresh water resources. The analysis of the location of rural settlements and agro-landscapes in the Kura-Araz lowland shows that the areas where such anthropogenic landscapes are localized are the areas along the Kura and Araz rivers and the rivers flowing into them...
