Geographers participated in the event dedicated to the “CIS Cultural Capital-2025”

On June 2-3, 2025, Acting Director General of the Institute of Geography, PhD in Geography Zaur Imrani, and Academic Secretary, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor Saida Zeynalova participated in the event dedicated to the “CIS Cultural Capital-2025” held in Lachin.

On the first day of the event, a concert program, art gallery, and performances of national dances by artists from CIS countries were presented. On the second day, scientific presentations by scholars from CIS countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan) were heard.

The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who informed the participants about the natural and economic potential of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur. He expressed his gratitude to the Head of State for the special attention and care shown to this region, which is entering a new stage of development.

Various speeches followed.

PhD in Geography, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani delivered a presentation titled “The Tourism and Recreation Potential of Karabakh”. He provided information about natural monuments, their features, evaluation criteria, and ways of registering these monuments. Zaur Imrani spoke about the geological, geomorphological, hydrological, floristic, and faunistic monuments of Karabakh, specially protected areas and their significance for tourism. He showed examples of tourist routes that can be created based on the natural monuments. At the end of his presentation, he introduced a 1:100,000 scale map reflecting the tourism and recreation potential of Karabakh.

Associate Professor Saida Zeynalova, PhD in Geography presented a report titled “The Dynamics of Modern Landscapes of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.” The aim of her research was to identify the patterns of differentiation in modern landscape complexes and to assess the ecological conditions of the studied region. A map of the ecological framework of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur was also presented. This map shows the core zones of the ecological framework, ecological corridors, and buffer zones within the areas studied.

At the end of the event, a commemorative photo was taken.
