Why is the water level in the Caspian Sea decreasing?

The drop in water level in the Caspian Sea has intensified over the past five years.

This was stated by the head of the department of the Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography Mirnuh Ismayilov in an interview with Elm TV. He said that the rise in water levels in the Caspian Sea has stopped since 1995. He attributed this to climate change and drought.
