"Azerbaijan 2020: Vision to future: creativity, intellectual property and innovative development" conference held

On April 24, JW Marriott Absheron hotel hosted for "Azerbaijan 2020: Vision to future: creativity, intellectual property and innovative development" conference by joint organization of ANAS, AR Copyrights Agency (CA) and AR State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent.

Event dedicated to 26 April - World Intellectual Property Day was attended by delegates of governmental organizations, MPs of Milli Majlis, celebrate scientific figures and mass media.

Opening the meeting chairman of AR State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent Ramiz Hasanov spoke about the importance of the conference devoted to 26 April - World Intellectual Property Day. Intellectual property with the potential to provide favorable conditions for the development of science and society, as a powerful tool in the development of a knowledge-based economy, and supporting a competitive economy are of great importance. “Economic significance of intellectual property is doubtless for fastest growing economy of Azerbaijan”, he noted.

Speaking at the event, chairman of CA Kamran Imanov stated that, intellectual property rights are a key factor in the development of healthy competition and trade. Making speech on vital fulfillments done in the field of fostering creativity of people and copyright protection during the period of independence, K. Imanov said that, a new phase in the sphere of intellectual property has kicked off in our country in 1996 by the adoption of the law "On Copyright and Related Rights".

Later on, ANAS president Akif Alizadeh presented lecture on “Copyright and intellectual property problems of Azerbaijan scientists". According to ANAS president, one of the main problems in our country is scientists’ copyright and intellectual property protection. He stated that, scientists are deprived of financial incentives for their activities, however, drew attention to the threats to the country's economic security. He also stressed the need to view rights of Azerbaijani scientists, as well as to be extremely sensitive to the issue of plagiarism due to protect the reputation of science.

Acad. Akif Alizadeh higly estimated the activity of AR State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent, including Copyrights Agency.

In the event, lectures on topics “Intellectual property yesterday, today and tomorrow” and "The automation of management of IPRs. Objectives” were delivered.

Executive Director of the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elchin Babayev, Deputy Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, First Deputy Minister of Communication and High Technologies Iltimas Mammadov, chief of Patent department of the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent Emil Mammadov.

Discussions were held on topics, suggestion and proposals were announced.
