Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On July 1, a discussion panel entitled “Turkological Art Studies” was held at the Presidium of ANAS within the framework of the international congress “The First Turkological Congress: A Century of Scientific and Cultural Heritage.”

Opening the event, President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, emphasized that the opening ceremony of the “Week of the Turkic World”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, had been organized at a high level. He noted that the event brought together heads and senior representatives of leading Turkic scientific institutions from six brotherly countries. A vibrant joint artistic and musical programme was also presented to a wide audience.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli further stated that, following the opening ceremony, the thematic sessions continued with presentations delivered by official delegates and prominent Turkologists, addressing a wide range of important issues, discussing the future development prospects of Turkology, and putting forward new initiatives in this field. Pointing out that more than 300 delegates participated in the international congress, the ANAS President stressed that this large-scale event had opened up broad new opportunities for future international cooperation.

Director of the Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS Artegin Salamzade, then spoke about the Turkological research carried out at the institute. He noted that Azerbaijan had been extensively represented in the Anthology of Turkic Art, published in Astana in 2014 at the initiative of the International Turkic Academy, and highlighted the active contribution of the institute's researchers to the project.

He also informed the participants that, in accordance with the decisions adopted at the 11th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States held in Bishkek, the institute's specialists are currently preparing dedicated chapters on Azerbaijan's history of urban planning, architecture, fine arts, music and cinema for the second volume of the multi-volume publication The Cultural History of the Turkic Peoples.

Emphasizing the significant role of international cooperation in promoting Azerbaijan's cultural heritage across the Turkic world, the institute's director stated that successful joint research projects have been implemented with the Kamoliddin Behzod National Institute of Painting and Design of Uzbekistan, as well as with research institutions in Kazakhstan studying nomadic culture. He also referred to the institute's long-standing cooperation with Aydın Adnan Menderes University in Türkiye, noting that this partnership is characterized by regular participation in international symposiums.

The discussion panel continued with presentations by Corresponding Member of ANAS Rena Mammadova on “Fundamentals of Music Turkology”; Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of Architecture and Art, PhD in Art Studies Khazar Zeynalov on “The Image of Atatürk in Azerbaijani Art”; Academic Secretary of the Institute, PhD in Art Studies Ramil Guliyev on “The Image of Dede Korkut in Turkic Fine Arts”; Aslan Khalilov on “Artistic Principles of Compositional Solutions in Turkic Miniatures”; Doctor of Sciences in Art Studies Rena Abdullayeva on “The Decorative and Applied Arts of the Turks”; Mehdi Samadli (Iran) on “Similar Motifs in Azerbaijani and Anatolian Carpets and Textiles”; Associate Professor Vidadi Gafarov on “Koroghlu as the Bard-Hero of the Turkic Peoples”; Iftikhar Piriyev on “Theatrical Relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan”; Sevinc Tangudur on “Istanbul Architecture during the Republican Era”; and Ellada Abbasova on “Cultural Relations between Azerbaijan and Tatarstan.”
