Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

“Golden Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan on behalf of Nizami Ganjavi” presentation ceremony took place at “Four seasons Baku” hotel by organization of International Center of Nizami Ganjavi within 3rd Global Baku Forum on April 29.

According to chairman of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov, former Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberg and co-chair of the International Center of Nizami Ganjavi, Director of Alexandria Library Ismail Serageldin were deserved to “Golden Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan on behalf of Nizami Ganjavi” by the decision of ANAS.

Later on, president of ANAS, acad. Akif Alizadeh donated the medal to former Latvian President and Director of Alexandria Library.

Vaira Vike-Freiberg was awarded for her merits in development of Azerbaijan-Latvia ties, including delivering universal values of Nizami Ganjavi's works to the world at large scale, promo fulfillments in the direction of inter-nations, inter-cultures dialogue, tolerance and cognition, Ismayil Serageldin for his merits in protection and delivering world scientific-cultural heritage to the future offspring, as well as works in the field of study and promotion of idea and opinions of N. Ganjavi.

Note that, for the first time in the annual general assembly of ANAS, “Golden Medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan on behalf of Nizami Ganjavi” was donated to acad. Arif Melikov for his services in development of art and study of art in Azerbaijan. Cognominal medal was given to active member of RAS Jores Alfyorov as well.
