Dear colleagues!
The announcement of December 31 as the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis of the World has played an important role today in turning the independent Republic of Azerbaijan into a strong, powerful state, ensuring our national unity, rallying our people around the country's leadership. It is the values instilled on this significant day that play an important role in protecting the nationality of our compatriots and fellow tribesmen, regardless of where they live, in their statement from the ideology of Azerbaijanism, in constant contemplation of the Motherland and helping it in difficult times, as well as in the economic strengthening of our state.
Our people, who lived 70 years as part of the USSR, were deprived of the opportunity to communicate with compatriots in other countries of the world, finally, in the late 1980s, began to realize these dreams, and after gaining our state independence, this desire became a reality.
On December 16, 1991, at the initiative of great geader Heydar Aliyev and by the decision of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, december 31 was declared the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis of the World, and then was adopted as a holiday throughout the republic.
By order of National Leader Heydar Aliyev on May 23, 2001, in order to further strengthen the ties with the independent Republic of Azerbaijan of our compatriots and fellow tribesmen living abroad, as well as to ensure unity and solidarity among the Azerbaijanis of the world, the First Congress of the Azerbaijanis of the World was held in Baku on November 9-10 of the same year.
At the Congress, the great leader Heydar Aliyev noted in his historic speech: “...Nationality is a source of pride for every person. ...I have always been proud and today I am proud that I am an Azerbaijani.”
The prominent statesman did not limit himself to this, and in order to organize our compatriots, expand ties with them, including propaganda of the truth about Azerbaijan in the world, in 2002 he signed a decree “About establishment of the State Committee on the Affairs with Azerbaijanis living in foreign countries”
Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, having successfully continued the policy of Azerbaijanism, national unity and solidarity of the Great Leader, signed an order on March 16, 2006 to hold the II Congress of Azerbaijanis of the World in Baku.
As Mr. President Ilham Aliyev said at the II Congress of Azerbaijanis of the World, “We all have one Motherland - Azerbaijan. We must strive to strengthen, enrich and turn our Motherland into a mighty state.”
Dear staff of the Academy, I once again congratulate you on significant days, constantly call for solidarity on the path of development of Azerbaijan, I wish you good days in the new year, as well as success in scientific creativity.
