Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Celebrate archaeologist, chief department at Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, corresponding member of ANAS Ilyas Babayev was 80 on March 23.

Ilyas Babayev was born in Khanagah village, Guba district. Finished secondary school in 1952, entered Azerbaijan State University faculty of history in 1953. Graduated from there with diploma of honor, and began for activity at Institute of History, Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences as researcher for archaeology.

Defended PhD thesis on topic “Glyptic monuments of antic and medieval centuries in Azerbaijan (Essays of glyptics history in ancient Azerbaijan)” in 1965, and doctoral thesis on “Towns of Caucasus Albany. BC IV-AD III centuries” in 1983 (Moscow).

Elected corresponding member of ANAS in 2007.

Author of almost 250 scientific papers.

We congratulate notable archaeologist on the occasion of 80th anniversary, wish him long life, robust health and successes in development of Azerbaijan science.
