Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Excavation works which started 8 years ago in Menteshtepe ancient settlement located in the village of Ayyublu, Tovuz region, were summed up. The key goal of Tovuz archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS joint with French National Center for Scientific Researches is to explore ancient settlements in the reaches of the Kura River. Outputs of the Radio-carbon analysis allow us to say that the monument belongs to BC VI millennium.

Explored monument once again demonstrates the antiquity of Azerbaijan to whole world. Over thousand rare and ancient artifacts founded in the ancient settlement covering since Neolithic period to the early Bronze Age. There are golden ones among archaeological materials as well.
