The 1st International Scientific Conference on Azerbaijani Studies in China is being held in Beijing under the slogan “Strengthening China-Azerbaijan Relations with the Spirit of the Silk Road”.
The president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli addressed the participants of the international conference with a video message. In his message, the Academician congratulated the participants of the international conference and highly valued the event as a significant scientific and cultural event.
The head of ANAS stated that the Azerbaijan-China relations went through a distinct and great path of development during the years of independence. He noted that the visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the People's Republic of China in 1994 laid a strong foundation for Azerbaijan-China relations in the new historical condition and determined their direction.
He emphasized that the documents signed during the visits of President Ilham Aliyev to the People's Republic of China and the state-level agreements have elevated Azerbaijan-China relations to a very high level of development in a short period.
“Today, in Azerbaijan, extensive relations with the People's Republic of China continue to develop in various fields, including economic, scientific, literary, and cultural areas. Within these relations, scientific ties, which form a special part of Azerbaijan-China relations, are undergoing a distinct path of development.
The agreement signed between ANAS and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, as well as the cooperation agreement signed between ANAS and the Hebei Academy of Social Sciences opens new horizons for joint research between Azerbaijani and Chinese scientists, promoting scientific recognition of both countries and the exchange of scientific literature. ANAS has begun the implementation of a large project extending from the Caspian Sea to China with Beijing Foreign Studies University, Hebei Normal University, and the Hebei Academy of Social Sciences. The international conference held in China in June 2024 will also continue in Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and other republics in the near future,”- said Academician Isa Habibbeyli.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that the Chinese Cultural Center operates at the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi. He noted that Azerbaijani scholars have defended dissertations on Chinese literature and that a book of poems dedicated to China has been published. “Azerbaijan-China relations have also generated great interest in learning the Chinese language in Azerbaijan and a generation of researchers studying the Chinese language at the Academy's Chinese Cultural Center has already been formed with the support of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Azerbaijan.
It is of great importance for us that the Beijing Foreign Studies University has conducted admission for specialists on the Azerbaijani language for the second time, and the graduates of the first admission are currently undergoing internships in Azerbaijan.
They have mastered the Azerbaijani language as deeply as their native languages. All of this set a serious task for Azerbaijani studies scholars to study the deep roots, rich traditions, current linguistic situation, and future development issues between the two countries in connection with our scholars in the People's Republic of China. I consider that the international conference will make a great contribution to the further scientific development of Azerbaijan-China multifaceted relations, establishing a systematic approach in this field, and defining appropriate goals in response to the challenges of modern times.”-he added.
In his address, academician Isa Habibbeyli highly appreciated the role of PhD in Philology, docent Agshin Aliyev, in organizing the teaching of the “Azerbaijani Language” specialty at Beijing Foreign Studies University and in facilitating the 1st International Scientific Conference on Azerbaijani Studies in China.
He noted that Agshin Aliyev has made significant contributions to the development of scientific and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China.
“The holding of the international scientific conference will lead to the creation of new bridges between the scientific community, scholars, universities, and the Academy of the People's Republic of China and the academic institutions and scholars of the Republic of Azerbaijan, opening up greater horizons for us. Once again, I greet the organizers and participants of the 1st International Scientific Conference on Azerbaijani Studies in China and express my best wishes for the successful implementation of this historic event.”-said the Academician.
It should be noted that the aim of the event, organized and hosted by the Beijing Foreign Studies University, is to contribute to the scientific introduction of Azerbaijan's ancient history, language, and culture in China, to deeply explore the cultural relations between the two nations, to scientifically assess the existing potential of economic relations, and to promote the development of Azerbaijani studies in China.
