Ellada Bakirova, Scientific Secretary of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), PhD in History and Associate Professor, delivered a seminar titled “History of Albania: Current Issues and New Approaches” for students majoring in history at the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Sciences of Karabakh University at the faculty’s invitation.
Bakirova emphasized that the Karabakh region is one of the key centers of Albanian cultural heritage and highlighted the importance of ongoing research in this field. She noted that for the accurate promotion of various aspects of Albanian history, existing scholarly problems in Albanian studies should remain in the focus of young historians and researchers, and these issues should be re-examined through the application of new approaches in contemporary scholarship.
She shared her views with students on the main challenges in studying the history of Albania, particularly the limited availability of sources and the need for new methodological approaches. She stressed the importance of treating sources not merely as carriers of information but as discourse.
In conclusion, it was noted that a more comprehensive understanding of the history of Albania can be achieved through the combined application of history, archaeology, anthropology, geography, and other related fields, as well as through multidisciplinary research. The meeting was considered beneficial in fostering a more critical and multifaceted approach to history among students and in encouraging them to reassess existing academic problems from new perspectives.
