A republic scientific-practical conference themed “Green and Digital Transformations: Interactions, Positive and Negative Aspects” was held at the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The conference was organized by the Institute of Information Technology, Azerbaijan Technical University, National Aerospace Agency, and the Institute of Radiation Problems.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the conference, the Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, General Director of the Institute of Information Technology, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev first spoke about the historical significance of 8 November - Victory Day. He mentioned that four years ago, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ilham Aliyev, our brave army wrote a glorious history in 44 days, ended a 30-year occupation, our territorial integrity was restored. The Academician said that during the Patriotic War, the Azerbaijani people united around the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, demonstrating their strength and braveness to the entire world. Academician Rasim Aliguliyev congratulated everyone on the Victory Day, which is written in golden letters in our centuries-old history.
At the event, the memory of the martyrs of the Patriotic War, who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, was honored with a minute of silence.
Following this, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev spoke about the significance of the conference dedicated to the issues of green and digital transformations. The scientist emphasized that formation of a healthy environment and a green society are among the priorities of state policy. Purposeful measures are implemented in Azerbaijan to develop green and digital transformations, as well as to solve ecological problems. He stated that the upcoming COP29 event imposes new obligations and sets important tasks for the state, scientists, and specialists in improving the ecological situation in the country, expanding the use of alternative energy sources, implementing new infrastructure projects, and formation of a green society.
Academician Rasim Aliguliyev underlined that research on green digital technologies is at the center of attention of the Institute of Information Technology. He also spoke about the negative and positive impacts of digital technologies on green transformations: “Our main goal is to reduce the negative impacts of ICT and digital technologies on the environment, as well as to investigate problems in the formation of a green society and green economy and contribute to their solutions through the application of artificial intelligence”.
The Vice President of ANAS touched upon the application of green mathematical models for solving ecological problems, emphasizing that conferences and symposiums dedicated to green mathematics are already held in various countries worldwide. He stated that multidisciplinary research should be conducted using the methods of green mathematics, and works in this direction should be expanded.
At the end of his speech, the scientist expressed confidence that the scientific-practical conference dedicated to green and digital transformations would have significant scientific outcomes, in the context of declaration of 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year” in Azerbaijan.
Then, the rector of Azerbaijan Technical University, Professor Vilayat Valiyev, the General Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Misir Mardanov, the General Director of the National Aerospace Agency, Professor Natig Javadov, the General Director of the Institute of Radiation Problems, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Islam Mustafayev and the Director of the Institute of Ecology of the National Aerospace Agency, Professor Bahram Aliyev delivered speeches at the event, highlighting the significance of the scientific-practical conference held on the eve of COP29.
Then the conference continued its work with section meetings titled “Digital Technologies in the Formation of a Green Society” and “Scientific and Practical Problems of Transition to a Green Economy”.
