At the next meeting of the Presidium of ANAS, the report of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center covering its scientific and organizational activities for 2024 were reviewed.
The Director of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center, Ph.D. in Philology Mehman Aliyev presented the report. He stated that in 2024, the staff of the center conducted scientific research focused on studying folklore and written literary works in the southeastern region of Azerbaijan, uncovering ethnographic, archaeological, and numismatic monuments, creating their maps, introducing numismatic materials into scientific circulation, and cataloging them. Mehman Aliyev also added that efforts were dedicated to collecting the existing forms and varieties of tea, citrus, and subtropical plants in the Lankaran-Astara region, studying their morphological and biological-economic characteristics, protecting them from the risk of extinction, restoring them, and selecting and growing new varieties, studying the population, social, and biological characteristics, environmental and genetic factors of longevity in the southern region, lifestyle, etc.
The speaker mentioned that the scientific research in the mentioned areas was conducted based on 3 problems, 9 topics, 10 projects, and 10 stages. He also provided information about the events held at the center in accordance with the presidential decrees on the “140th Anniversary of Mahammad Amin Rasulzade”, the “530th Anniversary of the Great Azerbaijani Poet Mahammad Fizuli”, the “100th Anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”, as well as within the framework of the “Green World Solidarity Year” and COP29.
Touching on the publication activities of the center’s staff, Mehman Aliyev said that during the reporting year, 59 articles and theses (31 theses and 28 articles) were published, including 14 articles and 7 theses published abroad. He emphasized the publication of the monograph and the textbook “Numismatics” by the center’s staff.
Mehman Aliyev also mentioned that 2 new varieties of lemon, 4 of mandarin, 2 of grapefruit, and 1 of lime were added to the Gene Pool Collection Garden for introduction, as well as a new Japanese tea variety was included in the experimental base.
In addition, the report mentioned activities aimed at integrating science and education, the state of e-science, awards, and so on.
Highly praising the report, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that the reforms carried out at the Center had a positive impact on its activities, resulting in significant achievements. Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed confidence that the staff of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center would continue to work productively this year as well.
In conclusion, a resolution of the Presidium of ANAS was adopted, which included the relevant directives.
