"EaPConnect" project will provide access to Europe's high-speed research and education network

Pan-European Science & Education GEANT (Gigabit European Advanced Network Technology) network is currently has 44 different areas of a network infrastructure which length is 50 thousand kilometers, serves to 43 countries, 10 thousand organizations and more than 40 million users at a high level.

To create a united Eastern Europe Regional high-speed networks for science and education and the connection of these countries to the electronic scientific infrastructure is realized a project "EaPConnect" (Eastern Partnership Connect), financed by the European Commission on the initiative and under the coordination of the Association of GEANT European. About this in his speech told Head of the International Department of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, PhD in Engineering Vugar Musayev in connection with the implementation of the project "EaPConnect" - the Eastern Partnership countries, a computer network (IP).

He noted that, the main goal of the project is to ensure the participation of scientists, researchers, teachers and students from the region of the Eastern Partnership, in cooperation in the field of research and education. "SaPConnect" is aimed at removing the digital difference between Europe and the EP, to ensure high-speed access EaP countries in the European networks and scientific information resources.

V. Musayev also stressed that, in order to increase scientific capacity of AzScienceNet computer network, which offers network services and technologies to all scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, establish close ties of cooperation with the relevant European Union institutions.

Then, Academician-Secretary of ANAS director of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS Academician Rasim Alguliyev reported in the event. Saying that scientific and educational cooperation between Azerbaijan and Europe as one of the priorities of the state policy, academician noted that vital steps are taken in the country to accelerate this process. As a result of successful foreign policy pursued by the head of the country, by increasing economic competitiveness of national products are exalted on the world market. To achieve sustainable economic growth and progress through the development of non-oil sector occupies an important place in the future development strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. One of the main pillars of development is ICT. In addition to the oil pipeline between Azerbaijan and Europe, “Internet line” for science is created within the "EaPConnect" project. This is an important step in the realization of transition from oil strategy to the ICT strategy.

According to the Academician, thanks to technical capabilities of AzScienceNet, which gained the status of the national operator for the integration of the Europe's electronic research environment, is expected a direct connection of Azerbaijan to Europe via GEANT crossroad in Hungary. Notifying about participation of institute staff in the meetings organized within the project "EaPConnect" in the first half of this year, R.Alguliyev stressed the importance of informing the public about the measures taken in ANAS in the direction of integration to European research scope.

"More than 700 scientific institutions, 2 million scientists, researchers and students in the region are expected to benefit from this network. AzScienceNet is going to have 1 Gbit / sec speed access to the Pan-European Science and Education Network since 2016. Providing access to scientific bases and a large volume of reliable data exchange, a high-speed broadband network will promote international scientific cooperation", - said the scientist and expressed his confidence that, project's scientific and technological innovations would contribute to the research and education community.
