On March 30, notable scientist Honored Scientific Figure with “Shohrat Order, director of AR Ministry of Health, National Oncology Center Academician Jamil Aliyev is 70 years old.

Jamil Aliyev was born in Baku city in 1946. In 1968, graduated from Azerbaijan State Medical University, defended PhD thesis in medical sciences in 1973 and doctoral in 1978. He gained title of Professor in 1987.

In various years worked in the posts of scientific fellow, chief department, deputy director of science at the National Oncology Center under AR Ministry of Health. Since 1990 he is a general director of the same organization.

Notable scientist's main research object was development of fundamentally new methods of preoperative treatment of breast cancer and their use and dissemination in healthcare practice, including its expanding in use of breast-conserving surgery, dissemination of latent hepatitis B and C in patients with breast cancer. J. Aliyev’s long-termed activities in medicine have been reflected in the first fundamental edition dubbed “Radiation therapy in malignant tumors”, co-authored by Dr. Medical sciences I.H.Isayev, which prepared taking into account changes in clinical oncology in the country in latest years. This work dedicated to clinic of cancer patients, diagnostics, radiation therapy methods, their consequences, results and ways of developing, is a high-level source for oncologists, radio therapists and students.

Outputs of academician’s studies have been positioned on 500 academic works, including 17 books and manuals, 12 inventions and rationalized proposals that published in the republic and abroad. He supervised to 8 Doctor of sciences and 45 PhDs.

Jamil Aliyev was deserved to title of Honored Scientific Figure in 2000, elected active member of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (2001), Georgian Academy of Sciences (2010), Russian Academy of Nature Sciences (2012), and Turkic World Studies International Academy of Sciences (2015).

Academician J. Aliyev delivered lectures in key problems of oncology in the several congress, symposium and conferences held in the republic, including the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Japan etc. and elected chairman and member to their authorities. He has been a member of CIS Oncologists' Association, European Oncologists' Association, Emeritus Professor of Hummel Smith Hospital (London University), chairman of the Azerbaijan Society of Radiologists and Oncologists and AR Congress of the Medical Expert Council. In 1995, was elected a member of New York Academy of Sciences.

Academician J.Aliyev was awarded the Order “Shohrat” in 2006. He is the laureate of the Award of ANAS on behalf “Academic Y.Mammadaliyev”, Award on behalf “Academic M.Topchubashov” by "Ministry of Health" and Award on behalf of "Academic M.Mirgasimov" of ANAS.

J.Aliyev is an editorial staff member of "Azerbaijan medical journal”, "Health" journal and "Биомедицина" (Biomedicine) journal. He has been granted with Certificates of Merit and medals of a range of governmental and public organizations.
