At a meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) held today, a report on the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Central Scientific Library (CSL) for 2025 was heard.
Presenting the report, CSL Director, Doctor of Technical Sciences Huseyn Huseynov, stated that the library’s main areas of activity include enriching and digitizing collections, providing information services to readers, ensuring information support for scientific research, and applying modern technologies and artificial intelligence in the library and information system. In addition, expanding international cooperation, participating in scientific and cultural events, publishing scientific articles, and implementing educational projects are among the library’s key priorities.
Speaking about CSL’s activities within the framework of implementing decrees of President Ilham Aliyev, Huseyn Huseynov noted that in connection with the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” in Azerbaijan, a bibliographic index titled “The Constitution of Azerbaijan and Sovereignty” was published by the Central Scientific Library. He also highlighted that a lecture event titled “The Triumph of the Ideas of National Leader Heydar Aliyev: Independent and Sovereign Azerbaijan,” dedicated to State Sovereignty Day, was held jointly by CSL and the Yasamal District Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party. Huseyn Huseynov added that virtual and traditional exhibitions related to the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” were organized at CSL.
The director also reported that, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences,” the 80th anniversary of ANAS was marked at CSL with the joint organization of the ANAS Presidium, the Central Scientific Library, and the Central Office of the New Azerbaijan Party. He emphasized that, at the same time, a virtual and traditional exhibition titled “ANAS 80: Scientific Heritage and Development” was organized at the library. The encyclopedic article titled “Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences” was thoroughly edited and improved in terms of content.
Huseyn Huseynov noted that last year also marked the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Central Scientific Library and drew attention to the decision of the Presidium on holding CSL’s jubilee. He stated that a virtual and traditional exhibition titled “CSL 100: History and Modernity” was organized at the library, an international scientific conference on “Innovations in Library and Information Activities in the Digital Age: Creation and Use of Traditional and Electronic Resources” was held, a documentary film titled “A 100-Year History” was produced by “Culture” television in connection with the CSL jubilee, and a number of publications were printed.
Providing information on the Automated Library Information System (ALIS), the director noted that services such as the electronic library, online ordering and delivery, electronic exhibitions, and analysis of reader feedback have been launched on the basis of ALIS. During the reporting period, 60,000 full-text publications were prepared for the e-library, more than 35,000 of which were placed in the Electronic Library database. In addition, inclusive library services provided readers with audio resources, talking books, and materials in audio-theater format. Huseyn Huseynov emphasized that, for the first time among Azerbaijani libraries, an artificial intelligence–based voice search system was developed at CSL.
The CSL director also reported that an electronic project dedicated to the 100th anniversary of People’s Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh was prepared, that work had begun on creating a Corporate Electronic Library Information System aimed at digitizing ANAS institute libraries, and that during the year, the Institute of Literature was the first to be connected to this system.
He further spoke about efforts undertaken during the year to develop international cooperation, providing information on the “Sister Libraries Memorandum of Understanding” signed between CSL and the Rami Library, as well as the cooperation memorandum signed between CSL and the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco. He noted that during the year, heads of libraries from various countries visited CSL.
In addition, the director stated that the library provides its readers with free access to the “Britannica Academic Edition” scientific database and access to the “ProQuest Central” academic database.
Huseyn Huseynov also highlighted publications prepared by the Central Scientific Library, bibliographic indexes, published books, organized exhibitions, open door days, and other events.
This was followed by discussions, after which, by decision of the Presidium of ANAS, the CSL report was approved, and it was decided that the significant results achieved would be included in ANAS’s annual report.
