At a meeting of the Presidium of ANAS, discussions were held on the preparation for the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress and the tasks ahead.
ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that, based on the relevant Presidential Order, the Congress’s exceptional role in shaping the common historical and cultural heritage, scientific thought, and humanitarian integration of Turkic peoples has been emphasized, and it was instructed to hold anniversary events. Accordingly, the Presidium approved ANAS’s Action Plan in its relevant meetings, and a commission was established under the chairmanship of Academician Isa Habibbeyli to ensure the high-level organization of the Congress’s anniversary preparations.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, within the framework of the anniversary, events are planned to be organized in stages. On February 27, 2026, an international scientific conference titled “Founders and Traditions of the First Turkological Congress: History and Modernity” will be held. He added that the main goals of the event are to recall the initiators, leading figures, and scientific ideas of the First Turkological Congress and to discuss the continuity of the scientific and moral traditions established by the Congress in the modern era.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that, within the framework of the event, broad scientific discussions and panel sessions dedicated to the scientific heritage of the First Turkological Congress and contemporary Turkological processes are planned.
“Special importance has been given to international scientific cooperation in the preparation process. The events plan for the participation of nearly 50 prominent scholars and experts representing the Turkic world, including participants from Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Hungary, regions of the Russian Federation inhabited by Turkic peoples, as well as other countries. The events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress are being organized in coordination with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Yunus Emre Institute, Turkish Language Association, and Khazar University participate as key partner organizations. Within this cooperation, joint activities are carried out to prepare the scientific program, select speakers and panel participants, ensure coordination with international partners, and organize the logistical and cultural program of the events,” Academician Isa Habibbeyli said.
He also noted that ANAS scientific departments and institutes are systematically organizing scientific conferences, round tables, and discussions dedicated to the 100th anniversary, preparing special publications, including the Congress’s stenographic records and archival documents into scientific circulation, and ensuring media coverage of the anniversary events. Within this framework, special attention is paid to the scientific analysis of the Congress’s ideas in the context of the modern Turkic world, as well as the formation of pan-Turkic values and shared scientific memory.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Baku Yunus Emre Institute, and Khazar University also spoke, sharing their opinions on the matters discussed.
The Presidium adopted a relevant decision to ensure the high-level organization of the above-mentioned events.
