Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On April 24, the opening ceremony of the inter-institutional football championship among young scientists and specialists of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) was held. The tournament is organized by the Presidium of ANAS, the Free Trade Union of ANAS, and the Youth Academy of ANAS.

The traditional championship, dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was attended by ANAS President, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium of ANAS, Chairperson of the Free Trade Union of ANAS and PhD in Political Science Sanan Hasanov, staff members, directors and employees of scientific institutions and organizations, representatives of the New Azerbaijan Party territorial organizations within ANAS, the Women’s Council, trade union organizations of institutes, the Board of the Youth Academy, and young scientists.

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the stadium in the Academy Campus, Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that this year, as in previous years, events dedicated to the anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev begin with the opening of the football tournament.

He noted that organizing a football championship at the Academy is highly important for maintaining the physical health of young people and ensuring the effective use of their leisure time. Academician Habibbeyli подчеркнул that interest in the championship has increased this year and that the Youth Academy of ANAS is also participating in the competition with its own independent team. He added that in recent years, a number of essential steps have been taken to support the development of young people within the Academy.

He noted that, based on international experience, the Youth Academy was established on the basis of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ANAS. Within a short period, the Youth Academy has organized a range of events at both the Academy and national levels, including an Azerbaijani language olympiad and other initiatives. With the support of the Presidium of ANAS, one issue of the “Young Researcher” journal, published four times a year by the Youth Academy, is released in English.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that the Youth Academy is currently taking practical steps to expand its international relations and promote science in the country.

He also emphasized that, in line with кадровая preparation priorities at the Academy, young scientists and specialists have been sent to countries such as Egypt, Poland, France, and the Vatican to gain professional experience.

Touching upon the activities of the Free Trade Union of ANAS, Academician Habibbeyli noted that under the leadership of PhD in Political Science Sanan Hasanov, the organization actively participates in the life of the Academy and consistently shows care and support for war participants, veterans, and families of martyrs. He also highlighted that the organization implements measures to improve the social welfare of employees, organize their recreation, and ensure their participation in cultural events.

Academician Habibbeyli also referred to the activities of the Women’s Council of ANAS and the territorial organizations of the New Azerbaijan Party, highly appreciating the active role of public organizations in the life of the Academy.

He added that the football championship is always held in a festive atmosphere and wished success to the teams.

Speaking afterward, Chairperson of the Free Trade Union of ANAS, PhD in Political Science Sanan Hasanov, expressed his gratitude to Academician Isa Habibbeyli for his support in organizing the football championship for young scientists and specialists. He also emphasized that the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation pays special attention to the organization of such events. Hasanov noted that, as in previous years, proper attention has been given to the preparation of the teams and all their necessary needs have been met. He also stated that matches between the Academy’s national team and teams from other organizations are planned.

At the opening ceremony, Chairperson of the Trade Union Organization of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, Faiq Babayev, recited a poem dedicated to the football championship.

At the end of the event, a commemorative photo was taken with the participating teams, and Academician Isa Habibbeyli made the symbolic first kick to mark the opening of the tournament.

It should be noted that six teams representing scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS are participating in the championship.
