Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

A medical screening campaign has been launched at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) as part of the “Target 130/80: Decide Your Future” project. The initiative is jointly organized by the Free Trade Union of ANAS, the Public Health and Reforms Center (PHRC) of the Ministry of Health, the Azerbaijan Cardiology Society (ACS), and Servier Azerbaijan.

Opening the event, Deputy Chairperson of the ANAS Free Trade Union Shahla Amirova highlighted the importance of large-scale medical screening initiatives aimed at protecting the health of ANAS employees. She noted that such social projects are designed to promote a healthy lifestyle among staff and enable the early detection of diseases.

Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova, emphasized that a healthy workforce plays a crucial role in the efficiency of scientific activity and stressed the importance of ensuring the continuity of such initiatives. She also praised the joint efforts between ANAS and the Ministry of Health, noting that expanding social and medical projects is vital for safeguarding the health of the scientific community.

Cardiologist Ulvi Mirzoyev, PhD in Medical Sciences, provided information about the course of the campaign and the medical procedures being carried out. He noted that the screening conducted for ANAS employees within the “Target 130/80” project aims to prevent cardiovascular diseases and strengthen a culture of early prevention in society.

Deputy Director of the PHRC Gahraman Hagverdiyev underlined the importance of early diagnosis and preventive measures, noting that this approach plays a decisive role in improving public health indicators.

Hagverdiyev also spoke about the main areas of activity of the PHRC. He stated that the center is responsible for organizing public health services, developing relevant programs and medical protocols, and determining priorities for their implementation.

Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Cardiology Society, Doctor of Medical Sciences Yasmin Rustamova, stressed the vital importance of combating arterial hypertension. The cardiologist noted that statistics on cardiovascular diseases across the country are concerning and drew attention to the key risk factors contributing to these conditions.

She particularly highlighted chronic stress, diabetes, and harmful habits as serious threats to heart health. Rustamova added that the society she leads continues its efforts to strengthen public awareness and expand preventive measures among the population.

Director of Servier Azerbaijan Rishad Tahmezov emphasized the importance of the project, noting that such initiatives make a significant contribution to public health and well-being. It was reported that within the campaign, employees’ blood pressure is measured and early diagnostic examinations for cardiovascular diseases are conducted. At the same time, participants are provided with individual medical recommendations on preventing risk factors and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Following the official part of the event, the screening campaign began. ANAS employees were examined in a designated area by professional cardiologists and medical staff.

As part of the campaign, employees’ blood pressure was measured, the condition of the cardiovascular system was assessed, and individual medical advice was provided.

President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, also took part in the screening campaign. He praised the organization of the initiative, stating that the preservation of scientific potential primarily depends on the health of scientists and staff. The head of ANAS called on employees to actively benefit from this opportunity and pay special attention to their health. Demonstrating the importance of the campaign by personal example, Academician Isa Habibbeyli underwent a medical examination.

It should be noted that the medical screening campaign will last for three days, and ANAS employees will have the opportunity to be examined by a professional team of doctors in facilities set up in the Academy’s main building.
