A presentation ceremony for the book titled “Documents from the State Archives of Florence on Safavid History,” published by the “Development in Science and Education” Public Union with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held at the A.A. Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS.
Opening the event, the Institute’s Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Ilgar Niftaliyev, spoke about the significance of the publication.
The compiler of the book, as well as the author of the transcription, translation from Italian, introduction, and notes, PhD in History, Associate Professor Ahmad Guliyev, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan for its support in the preparation of the publication, and to Professor Karim Shukurov, Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology, for his assistance in organizing the presentation.
A. Guliyev noted that the book provides information on 203 archival documents preserved in the State Archives of Florence concerning Safavid–Ottoman relations and Safavid–European diplomatic ties. He added that selected parts of a number of these documents, which are of particular importance for national history, were transcribed and translated from Italian and included in the present publication.
The scientific editor of the book, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Tofiq Najafli, and the reviewers, PhD in History, Associate Professor Farah Huseyn, and PhD in History, Associate Professor Nargiz Akhundova, emphasized that the publication would be a valuable resource for researchers studying Safavid history.
It should be noted that the book, published by “Tahsil” Publishing House, is intended for historians, students studying the history of the Safavid state, as well as a broad readership.
